Dolphin Supernova Screen reader with combined Magnification
More for the advanced user, Supernova is a very good program if you need the combination of Magnification as well as a good screen reader. Supernova works in the background enabling the user to work in programs like Microsoft Office to create letters, Spreadsheets, Databases etc. The Supernova Control Panel lets you set your preferences on how you want it to operate i.e. setting magnification, speech settings, verbosity etc. Really needs a person with some experience in configuring the settings. The UK technical staff are excellent, takes a bit of time to get through, but they are good at sorting out problems if you come across them.
They have just launched version 9
Includes a new true speech voice "Daniel" much more human. You can download a demo version from the Supernova site, the link is below..

GUIDE BY SOFTWARE EXPRESS
Review:
The Guide program works on a series of menus and sub-menus, to navigate to different areas of the program, like writing letters, sending emails, internet access, address book etc. So many mini programs have been developed to work inside the main program you could compare it as an operating system in itself. Very user friendly, ideal for the home user. The sales and technical staff are excellent.
Well worth a visit to their home page. You can download a demonstration disk from the website link below

JAWS FOR WINDOWS
REVIEW:
Jaws is very similar to Supernova, it works much the same way in assisting other programs with speech and magnification. It has some differences in the keyboard layout i.e. instead of using the Enter key to activate actions such as opening programs, it uses the Insert key instead. Other differences become apparent as you use it.
Again more for the advanced user, getting used to the configuration settings are a bit of a pain, but once you have the settings right it works fine. The Sales and technical staff seem to keep you hanging on the phone. You can download a copy from the link below
Dual Screen Reader and Screen Magnifier
REVIEW:
We have tried this program a number of times with the same results, it tends to freeze the computer screen and sometimes crashes the computer. We did manage to trial it for a week. The shortcut keys are somewhat of a brain teaser to remember for instance, the normal universal shortcut key for Print is the control key plus P but Dual as it as Control plus NP, leaving the user to find keys that are poles apart.
Unfortnately there is no download page to try this product, but a link to the website is below.
Thunder ScreenReader
This is a screen reader combined with Webbie the talking browser. And it is Free!. If you simply want a screen reader give this a whirl. Configuration is not easy and you do get some hassle if you dont read the manual. not all that user friendly. Sales staff hard to get hold of But there again its Free! . Website link below
